Why Motley?
Why Motley?
In July of 2019, my husband and I were out and about spending time with one another.
We stopped by a motorcycle dealership to catch up with a motorcycle loving friend and check out their inventory. Although the motorcycle I had previously thought was what I wanted,
the culture of the shop was not one worthy of our investment.
So, we drove on toward Harley. We walked into the used bike section of Greenville Harley Davidson.
Instantly I was drawn to a Street.
She was not blacked out like the one I had previously been attracted to.
Instead, she was red.... and I couldn't take my eyes off her.
On the handlebar was a tag. It simply read,
" Put me Away Johnah"
Immediately my heart sank; as I felt for sure she had been sold.
Of course a kind gentleman named Johnah came to assist us...
and by the end of the night, we were signing papers on Motley.
So, you are probably asking yourself, why Motley?
From a previous post, you might remember me mentioning
the love of heavy metal music and tattoos seed had been planted long before I set my eyes on him (referencing my husband).
He was technically my father's cousin. However, I referred to him as my cousin; as he was closer to my age than my dad's.
Aaron Roberts
My mother would tell you I had a crush on Aaron.
Whether true or false is neither here nor there; as I would have been 8 years of age or younger during most of my interactions with him.
What I can say is when I think of Aaron, I smile and feel something deep within me; as (3) vivid memories race through my minds eye.
1st Memory
I remember playing Star Wars with him at Aunt Betty's house.
2nd Memory
A vision of passing trees and the sun setting through the leaves.
Aaron was throwing leaves in my face; as he and I rode his dirt bike down a trail.
I remember the feeling of laughing and happiness.
3rd Memory
Aaron tying me to swing forcing me to listen to Smokin' in the Boys Room by Mötley Crüe on his radio.
Distance and time separated us.
However, I have always considered myself closer to him than the rest of the family.
He was a rebel until the day he left us to go home... way too soon.
Although he never knew the person I became... the seed he planted continued to grow within me.
And..when I laid eyes on her I knew immediately,
her name would be Motley.
Oh!!
As I wrote this post, I realized Motley came home on my Grandmother's birthday...
...and her favorite color was red.
